unspoilt countryside, birdwatching, sailing. Mile upon mile of perfect sandy beaches at Holkham and Wells are within a 10 minute drive and if you are prepared to walk a short distance, the beach is all yours. For bird watchers the famous Cley salt marshes are minutes away and the tern and seal colonies of Blakeney Point are easily accessible (seal trips run from Morston quay on the tide throughout the year). The Georgian town of Holt is 8 miles away and has a host of interesting shops including several antique shops and delicatessens. The attractive town of Burnham Market is also close by as are the stately homes of Holkham, Sandringham and Blickling to name but a few! There are a number of really excellent restaurants and pubs in the close vicinity and we can offer advice on these or make bookings for you prior to your arrival if required.
From the cottage it is an easy walk down rough tracks onto the marsh. From there, one is free to roam for miles along the marshes and out to Blakeney Harbour and the open sea. For children, the sandy beaches of Stiffkey Freshes are within easy reach and whilst some are busy with boats and sand castles during the high summer season, they are almost deserted for the rest of the year.
Honey Barrel Cottage in winter is a joy! After a brisk walk on one of the stunning beaches nearby, or along peaceful country lanes, the cottage awaits you with a warm welcome. The recently installed central heating ensures that shoes and sweaters can be immediately peeled off. And the pleasures of hot buttered crumpets toasted in the wood burning stove
! The area around Stiffkey is quite staggeringly beautiful in winter as well as the rest of the year and there is no shortage of places to visit.
